Tinnitus - A Video Art

Idea/thought:
Growing up with social anxiety has always made things more difficult than it actually is. And the negative words from people sometimes make it harder than it already is. My video art, named Tinnitus, which means buzzing sound in the ears, has been inspired from my personal experience. The reason I have chosen “Tinnitus” as my title name is because the noise from people can have an emotional and mental damage to a person. The video art will be a portrayal of how the words of people can affect a person, mentally. The demotivation that comes from people might have a bigger effect on a person than it actually shows and how it can lead to lose the individuality of a person.
Visualization:
There will be approximately 50% visual and 50% audio- while the visuals will play the crucial part of showing the emotions the audio will support the visual- the audio will include various disturbing sounds, indistinct chatter or voices of people.
Shot 1:
The first scene will include a girl studying. The scene is taken in the washroom to portray the education system of the country which does not allow us to do anything out of the box.
Shot 2:
In this scene, the camera will focus on a doll kept on top of the books. The doll represents the innocence of a person and how she is left alone to deal with all the social pressure.
Shot 3:
Here, the girl is shown to practice her speech in front of the mirror. Here, I have tried to represent the individuality of a person. How a certain person sees him/herself, how and what they want to be.
Shot 4:
In this scene, the light all of a sudden turn grey. A disturbing sound appears, the girl is seen struggling with that sound, trying to get out of the situation.
This scene represents how the negative comments from people can affect a person mentally. How one can lose their individuality due to people’s constant negativity.
Production plan:
I will be shooting this in my house in Mirpur. The cast of this video art was Purnota, a friend’s sister. It was entirely shot on the washroom with DSLR camera. Other elements needed for this shoot were books, doll, mirror etc. It was edited on Adobe Premier Pro. For the editing part, I took help from my friend and classmate Tahzive Islam Avi.
